Michael Fleming, president of the US Equipment Leasing and Finance Association (ELFA) between 1979 and 2006 passed away on 19 August due to cancer.

Fleming helped establish ELFA’s headquarters in Washington, and oversaw it becoming the leading professional trade association representing the industry in the US, as the equipment finance industry grew to a major force in the economy over his 27 year tenure.

Prior to his time at ELFA, Fleming managed state associations in Iowa and South Carolina, and had a B.A. in Political Science and History and an M.A in History and Economics from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Outside of asset finance, Fleming was also an active member of several professional and economic groups, including time as chancellor of the Exchequer Club in Washington and a member of the US Chamber of Commerce Committee of 100.

He is survived by his wife, along with his three sons and daughter. The family said they would appreciate donations made to Capital Caring Hospice.
