Total UK commercial vehicle production was 25% lower in July 2014 compared to July 2013, at 6,338 units.
This left year to date production at 43,798 units, 23.3% below the 57,118 units that had been produced by the end of July 2013.
This was a continuation of the decline that started in 2012, when 65,100 commercial vehicles were produced by the end of July.
Production for export saw a bigger drop in July, down 31% year-on-year to 4,213, compared to models manufactured for the domestic market, which fell 9.4% year-on-year to 2,125 vehicles.
Overall vehicles made for export made up 66.5% of all commercial vehicles produced in July 2014, compared to 72.2% in July 2013.
Year-to-date 20,723 vehicles were produced for the domestic market, down 21.4%. 23,075 vehicles were produced over the period for export, down 25% year-on-year.

Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive, said: "With the effects of the 2013 restructuring still evident, as well as the spike in truck registrations towards the end of last year, this was to be expected. The coming months should provide more optimism, however, with European demand showing sustained improvement."
