Leasing Life is hosting
its third equipment finance awards in Berlin this
December.
Preparation for this prestigious
event – that attracts leasing companies from across the whole of
Europe – are already underway. The Leasing Life editorial
team has sent out questionnaires to Europe’s major lessors – the
responses to which will form the basis for deciding who will be the
runners-up in each category. As part of the research process,
between now and December we will also publish reports on the
performance of captives, bank-owned lessors and the large
independents – the first of these appear in this issue over the
next four pages. Also, below we provide full details of the
categories and criteria – and the names and details of our judging
panel.

judges for the 2009 Leasing Life Awards will be published
in the September edition of Leasing Life.
CATEGORIES AND
CRITERIA
European Lessor of the
Year
This prestigious award, the most
important in the industry, will reflect the performance of an
international lessor at the top level of European business. Against
the backdrop of the recession, lessors will be celebrated for the
efficiency with which they have tackled a tougher business
environment. Judges will account for financial results, prudent
business development strategies, product innovation and mastery of
the risk-reward dilemma. Nominees will include bank-owned and
international independent lessors.
Captive Finance Provider of the
Year
Influenced by dual pressures on both
the credit market and the manufacturing sector, captives have been
under the spotlight over recent difficult quarters. Winners in this
category will show the ability to support parent company sales, and
the capacity to innovate in a high-pressure environment.
European Vendor Partnership of the
Year
This award will go to a vendor
finance partnership. It will recognise a lessor’s ability to bring
benefit to all three parties in a vendor finance agreement –
lessor, manufacturer and customer – while driving volumes and
executing a thorough due diligence process. We will also take into
account the work of the lessor’s overall vendor finance
business.
German Lessor of the
Year
Given the importance of German
industry and its associated financial sector, it seemed natural for
these European awards to be based in Berlin. The German leasing
industry has been hit hard by both economic and regulatory
pressures, and this award will recognise a German lessor that has
thrived despite these challenges.
European Law Firm Asset Finance
Provider of the Year
To win this award, law firms
specialising in equipment finance across Europe must show the
ability to litigate for their clients across all arenas – from
insolvencies to fraud cases and contract disputes – as well as
having the ability to provide top-level advisory services.
SME Champion of the
Year
With a perceived public failure of
both government and financial institutions to keep the SME economy
alive, we seek to recognise a company that has made a demonstrable
contribution to the livelihood of small businesses, while
maintaining commercial success.
European Functional Leader of the
Year
Awarded to the head of a particular
function within a leasing company, this award will celebrate
exceptional leadership within any field; be it risk, sales,
collections, human resources or finance.
Personality of the Year
2009
In this category, the judging panel
will look to highlight the work of an industry figure who has won
the praise of their peers throughout the last year – either through
leadership, lobbying action, business wins or sheer determination
to keep their company alive and prosperous.
Lifetime Achievement Award
2009
From time to time there are
individuals who have given outstanding service to the industry. The
judges will be considering nominations of individuals who have
taken it upon themselves to enhance the reputation of the leasing
industry whether in-country or globally. This will be an individual
who we are proud to have as part of our industry.
