Guests at the Leasing Foundation charity lunch in London’s Institute of Directors on 19 December raised around £26,000 (€31,000) for Macmillan Cancer Support and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Although the figure is yet to be finalised, as pledged donations continue to come in, much of the total was raised on the day through donation envelopes and an auction.

Prizes on offer included a week-long stay at Manoir du Fraytet in South-West France, dinner for two and a night’s accommodation at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxford, and a pair of goalkeeper gloves signed by Peter Shilton, the former England goalkeeper, who provided the after-dinner entertainment with anecdotes from his playing days.

Andrew Denton, chief executive of the Leasing Foundation, and Peter Thomas, chief operating officer, addressed guests with the Leasing Foundation’s plans for 2014 and thanked its members for their work in 2013 – in particular Mary McNamara who was singled out for her work developing the Women in Leasing programme.
