The week’s fleet news from around the UK.
LeasePlan and Aldermore support UK fuel tax
limitation
The UK government announced this week it is to
delay a proposed 3p rise in fuel duty until January 2013.
While the UK arm of vehicle managers LeasePlan
has welcomed the news, British bank Aldermore has said the cost of
fuel still threatens the competitiveness of UK hauliers.
David Brennan, managing director at LeasePlan
said the decision was “surprising” but “with the majority of all
new car registrations in the UK now accounted for by fleet
vehicles, the government must realise how important this sector is
to the wider economy, and how damaging tax hikes can be.”
Meanwhile, Damon Walford, managing director of
Aldermore Invoice Finance, pointed out the tax rise would put
diesel at roughly 145p per litre in the UK, 81p of which would be
tax, compared to 118p in France, 115p in Germany, 106p in Spain and
96p in Luxemburg.
