Total EU commercial vehicle registrations grew 5.1% year-on-year in April, reaching 151, 571 units.
This marked the eighth consecutive month of year-on-year growth, though April’s numbers were down compared to March, when 185,520 units were registered.
Of the largest markets, Spanish growth was strongest, up 54.6%, followed by Italy, 15.2%, and France, 0.4%. Germany and UK registrations were down 2.1% and 3.6% respectively.
By segment, light commercial vehicles grew 6.4% to 125,133 units, and buses and coaches rose 20.4% to 3,080. However vehicles over 3.5t fell 2.9% to 23,358 while heavy commercial vehicles (trucks over 16t) registrations fell 0.7% to 17,832.
Year-to-date
Year-to-date sales were up 8.7% compared to the same stage in 213, totalling 585, 170 units.

By GlobalDataAs in April, Spain and Italy saw the fastest growth, up 43.3% and 14.4% respectively, followed by the UK, which grew 7.1% and Germany, which grew 6.7%. Despite its small growth in April, French registrations fell 0.4% in the period.
In first four months of 2014 all segments grew, with light commercial vehicles posting the fastest growth, up 9.5% to 494, 479. This was slightly faster growth than heavy trucks, which grew 9.2% to 70,631.
Buses and coach registration grew 5.6% to 10,331, while there were 90,360 new commercial vehicles over 3.5t registered in the same period, an increase of 4.7%.
