As has been the case in recent months, the most visible deals on
the market continue to be commercial vehicle fleet deals.

Most prominently, CV contract hire
provider Ryder has signed a major deal with food production giant
Premier Foods, for the supply of vehicles worth a total of €9.5
million.

The 187 vehicle deal includes a
number of 15-tonne box bodied trucks for dry freight haulage, as
well as 38-tonne and 28-tonne tractor units from DAF and Mercedes,
to join the Hovis bread fleet.

The vehicles will be maintained
through service depots owned by Ryder, as well as through the
firm’s 349 FleetCare dealers, and the Premier account will be run
by a dedicated senior team at Ryder, where account managers will be
on hand to support the fleet with additional short or long term
rental vehicle rentals if needed.

Premier Foods is one of the UK’s
largest food producers, incorporating brands such as Mr Kipling,
Branston, Ambrosia and Bachelors, as well as Hovis, the livery of
which will decorate the new trailer units. More than 99 percent of
all UK households brought a Premier Foods brand last year and 46.8
million people eat one of their branded products in an average two
week period.

Meanwhile, more than 350 Fiat
commercial vehicles are to be delivered to Scottish Southern
Energy, thanks to a five-year, fully maintained contract hire deal
funded by Lex Autolease.

The vans – a mix of Fiorinos and
Doblo Cargos – have been prepared to the energy company’s
specifications, said Fiat Professional, which is supplying the CVs,
with “a newly-designed bespoke racking system, while the Fiorinos
come with passenger airbag, larger 15-inch wheels, Michelin energy
saving tyres, parking sensors and panelled bulkheads.

He added: “The Doblo Cargos are
equipped with panelled bulkheads and parking sensors.”

“The Fiorinos portray a fresh new
identity for SSE,” said Grahame Neagus, head of Lex Autolease’s
specialist commercial vehicle unit.

“And that, coupled with the
vehicles’ comfort, practicality and functionality, made them an
obvious choice for this contract.”

The vans’ low CO2 emissions also
helped seal the deal, Neagus added.

Finally, plumbing firm Dyno-Rod
Plumbing and Drains has signed a contract with Hitachi Capital
Commercial Vehicle Services (HCCVS), for the lease of 66 new vans,
a mix of Volkswagen Caddys and Ford Transits.

As per the terms of the deal, HCCVS
will manage the build, delivery and finance for the new vans, which
will support Dyno-Rod’s expansion bid over the next six months.

A TomTom Work unit will be fitted
into every van, to “allow for more efficient work management as
[Dyno-Rod] will be able to identify where a vehicle is located
against planning schedules and pick the best vehicles to manage a
new task”, HCCVS said.
