The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is extending a €10 million loan to Garanti BBVA Leasing Romania, a mid-sized finance lease provider that supports small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The EBRD said the loan aims to enhance access to leasing finance for SMEs and bolster their resilience.

Garanti BBVA Leasing will allocate the loan to finance new leases for SMEs, facilitating their acquisition of equipment and vehicles. Notably, over 70 per cent of the beneficiaries are located outside Bucharest, introducing a significant regional impact. Additionally, at least 30 per cent of the loan will be dedicated to financing green assets, supporting climate change mitigation under EBRD’s Green Economy Transition standards.

In 2023, the EBRD invested €658 million in Romania. Since beginning operations in Romania in 1993, the EBRD has committed nearly €11 billion to 525 projects, with 81 per cent of this investment directed towards the private sector.
