Henry Howard Finance strengthens internal IT team
Wales-based Henry Howard Finance (HHF) has expanded its internal IT team with a number of appointments over the last 12 months to strengthen business intelligence and cybersecurity.
The expansion was led by IT head Gavin Dowding, who arrived at HHF in 2016 with 15 years of experience. In August, Dowding was joined by head of infrastructure James Taylor, previously at Olive Communications. Web applications developer Greg Merriman was also brought on board in December, to support HHF’s online deal-management platform, HowApp.
Analysts Rhydian Thomas, Nicola Evans and Clare Montgomery also joined the group, tasked with managing IT initiatives for future growth. Finally, data analyst James Brown was recruited to analyse feedback from internal IT users.

Reward Finance, has appointed a business development director to its North West UK team.
Mike Calvert is well known in both Manchester and Liverpool, having worked in the finance sector for 30 years. He began his career in asset finance before moving into corporate and commercial banking with HBOS and Lloyds and then into invoice finance.
Calvert joins from Bibby Financial Services where he was head of sales for the North West, helping to make the Liverpool office the most profitable and successful in the Bibby group.
Aldermore Group appoints Butler as chair
Aldermore Group has appointed Pat Butler as a non-executive director with effect from 1 January 2018, and as chair-designate. He will also be appointed as non-executive director and chair-designate of Aldermore Bank.
Butler will also chair the corporate governance and nomination committee, and be appointed as a member of the remuneration committee.
Butler is currently an independent non-executive director of Bank of Ireland Group, where he chairs the remuneration committee. He also chairs the audit committee at Hikma Pharmaceuticals, and the risk committee at the Ardonagh Group.
Alphabet appoints Ewen as manager for direct sales
Alphabet has appointed Jo Ewen to a newly created role as general manager for new business direct sales for the corporate, SME and public sectors.
Ewen joins with commercial experience at RAC, Europcar, FMG, TR Fleet and, most recently, LeasePlan UK.
Responsible for a team of 17 people based in Farnborough and around the UK, Ewen will report directly to chief commercial officer Simon Carr.
Former RBS ABL director joins ThinCats
P2P funder ThinCats has appointed a former RBS asset-based lending director as a senior hire to cover the South West region.
Alison Whistance join ThinCats as origination manager, South West after the company announced a £200m funding programme in conjunction with parent company ESF Capital.
Whistance joins from RBS/NatWest, where she worked for the past nine years in senior manager and business development roles across private, business, commercial, and corporate banking.
Her most recent role was business development director, specialising in asset-based lending across the South West and Wales. This was an origination role focused on secured lending against receivables, inventory and property.
Midlands Asset Finance appoints senior manager
Midlands Asset Finance has appointed a senior relationship manager in Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.
John Horne will be responsible for developing new customer relationships and building existing ones to arrange asset finance funding.
Horne has spent 15 years with Barclays Mercantile and 24 years with Lombard, spending the last decade looking after commercial and corporate clients as relationship director.
