Light commercial vehicle registrations across
Europe increased for the first time since April 2008, according to
the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA).

The association said that van registrations
recorded a 1.6 percent increase in February 2010 compared with
one year before. They were 73 percent up in Ireland, over 25
percent up on the UK, Italy and Spain. In absolute figures, France
registered the most vans.

Nevethelsess, registrations of heavier
vehicles continued to plummet in most countries.

Trucks between 3.5 tonnes and 16 tonnes showed
a decrease of almost 27 percent. Only the Polish, Slovak and Greek
markets managed to expand.

Heavier trucks (over 16 tonnes) registered the
sharpest drop, with a 31.4 percent decrease. Again, the only
countries to see a rise in registrations for this segment were
Poland, Slovakia and Ireland. Germany recorded the most vehicles,
although its market contracted by 33 percent.
