GE Capital Fleet Services has become the first
vehicle leasing company to receive the Van Excellence accreditation
from the Freight Transport Association (FTA). The accreditation
sets standards for different aspects of van operation.
The UK leasing and fleet management company
said it sought accreditation to provide assurance that it meets
customer standards.
Aspects of van operation judged by the FTA
include driver behaviour, vehicle condition, safety and maintenance
as well as environmental impact and risk assessment.
“In all the key areas, we were already close
to meeting or exceeding the standards required by Van Excellence,”
said Eddie Parker, light commercial vehicle (LCV) consultant at GE
Capital Fleet Services.
To ensure the standards were met this year,
GE’s LCV operating processes were looked at in detail and Parker
said the “whole exercise was very useful in terms of making us
re-examine our approach to managing our van fleet at a fundamental
level and ensuring that we were on the right track”.
Van Excellence was introduced around a year
ago and has been supported by van manufacturers and several major
corporate fleets.
