The average price of light commercial vehicles (LCV) in the UK was £5,498 (6,860) in July, up 15.2% compared to the same period in 2013, according to figures released in the British Car Auctions (BCA) monthly Commercial Pulse Report.
In July 2014, the average age of LCVs was 56.38 months, compared to 88.12 months in the same period 2013, while average mileage also decreased from 81,202 to 79,537. Sale vs Cap increased slightly from July 2013 to July 2014, from 101.32% to 101.65%.
At £6,464, the average values of fleet and lease LCVs fell £54, or just 0.8%, in July 2014 compared to June 2014, however this was still 11.7% above the average value of £5,782 recorded in July 2013.
Year-on-year, the average age fell from 42.70 months to 42.04 months, average mileage increased from 69,593 miles to 73,139 miles, and sale vs CAP increased from 100.83% to 101.31%.
The average value of a part-exchange LCV was £3,637, down £6 compared to June 2014, but up 11.3% compared to July 2013.
While the average age of part-exchange LCVs increased from 78.21 months in July 2013 to 81.04 months in July 2014, the average mileage decreased from 97,726 miles to 93,230 miles. Sale vs CAP increased from 102.55% to 103.41% in this period.
Despite a month-on-month fall in every sector the BCA reported that, in total, used LCV values were up 1.8% in the period, largely due to the higher valued fleet and lease vans increasing as a percentage of vehicles sold in the month.
Commenting on the figures, BCA’s general manager – Commercial Vehicles, Duncan Ward, said "The longer term price trends remain very positive, however, and the year-on-year figure was up again as it has been fairly consistently since 2011. Typically we have seen double-digit percentage rises when comparing values year-on-year, which highlights just how far demand has outstripped supply since the onset of recovery from recession."

By GlobalData"Trade buyers are continuing to focus on the very best ready-to-retail vehicles which are routinely making exceptional money, while vans in poor condition, unattractive colours or available in large volumes in a similar specification may struggle for attention in the current market."
